AVRA -Amberwood Village Recreation Association
Amberwood Village is a premier community in west Ottawa. It is home to a challenging 9-hole executive golf course, a fabulous restaurant Amberwood Lounge & Eatery (ALE), and features spectacular leisure activities like a heated outdoor pool, tennis courts and a pickleball court.
Amberwood Village Recreational Association (AVRA) is responsible for the property and buildings on and around the Amberwood Village golf course. The golf course, pool and tennis courts are managed by Amberwood Village Golf and Country Club (AVGCC), under a long term lease agreement with AVRA.
AVRA’s mission is “To best ensure the continued existence, viability and value of the Association’s assets for the use and enjoyment of the residents of Amberwood Village; and in so doing, contribute to maintaining and enhancing the property values of the owners.”
Who owns AVRA property? You do, if you are a member. If you are not a member, you can become one for a modest $50 one-time fee, which is good for as long as you own a property in Amberwood Village. With the membership, you get a piece of AVRA property, and a say in the direction of the organization through Annual General Meetings (AGM) held in the Fall of each year. Note, only AVRA members may attend the AGM or serve on the AVRA Board of Directors. If you would like to join AVRA, an application for membership can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.

The restaurant’s summer hours are: Monday-Friday: 11am-10, Saturday: 11am-2*, Sunday 9:30-3PM* (breakfast). *On weekends, ALE will be hosting community BBQs outside near the pro-shop. They will run until 6PM.
ALE will have a weeknight happy hour this year running from 3-6PM.
ALE has also created a series of Amberwood Community Events this year. These events will be once per month on a Thursday evening and will feature activities or dinner and dancing. Their first event will take place at 5:30PM on May 9th. It’s titled Swingin’ 60s Spring Fling – A buffet dinner, dance & costume contest.
Chair Yoga: Wednesday afternoons, join them for Chair Yoga muscle therapy from 1-2PM and 15% off lunch at ALE. Aleottawa.ca for more information & on how to pre-register.
ALE is an event centre and dining destination. Although reservations are recommended, walk-in diners are welcome. For further information on their daily dining operations, please visit aleottawa.ca or call (613) 831.2442 and ask to speak with the manager on duty.
Interested in participating in a spring clean-up morning at the entrance to Amberwood, and perhaps other locations in the community? The City of Ottawa can provide a spring-cleaning kit (bags etc.) if we have enough interest. Tentative date would be one of the following 3 Saturdays in May: May 11, 18, 26. Please contact David Pipkins at email@example.com or 613-831-4855 if interested, and indicate availability for the dates above.
Amberwood Village Community Day
This event is open to the residents of Amberwood only and it is a great opportunity to make new friends and meet neighbours from the Village. There will be free use of the golf course for a limited time starting about noon, and free use of the tennis courts and swimming pool during the hours of the event. June 23 is being considered for this event with July 7 as a rain date but watch for details on this via e-mail, and via posters at the mailboxes in Amberwood.
Capital Funding Committee Meeting
As you may recall, a Capital Funding Committee was established at AVRA Annual General Meeting in 2018, reporting to the AVRA board. Several people volunteered for this, and worked hard through the winter to investigate issues and possible solutions and alternatives. AVRA will sponsor a meeting at AVGCC within the next month to discuss the report and recommendations of the Capital Funding Committee. Committee representative and the AVRA board will be there to present, discuss and respond to questions. Date and details will be provided in a subsequent e-mail to AVRA news subscribers, as well as via posters at the mailboxes within the community.
Hydro One Maintenance
While the snow was deep this winter, it didn’t stop Hydro One from doing vegetation maintenance on the power transmission corridor between the club, parking lot and condos. Trees under or close to the easement were trimmed or removed, to a height that does not exceed 9 feet, as per Hydro One rules, to prevent potential interference with hydro lines now or in the future. Hydro One has completed removal of trees and bushes, installed a page wire fence between Amberlakes and AVRA property, and installed climbing deterrents on the primary tower on AVRA property. Hydro One will be returning in early May to complete grinding of stumps, clean up wood chips, and remove other debris. Also, they will be providing AVRA with gift certificates towards planting of trees at other locations on AVRA property.
